Play Real Narcos Pablo Escobar Part 5: The Final Battle

The King of Cocaine met a grisly end on the rooftops of his hometown, Medellin.

“I went out in the hallway and as loud as I could I screamed, ‘Pablo’s dead’, you know, ‘Pablo is finally dead’. I was ecstatic. Then I ran up the stairs to the Ambassador’s office… I said, ‘Mr Ambassador, Escobar’s dead’… I’ve been here for almost seven, no six, years at the time and it finally happened.”

Joe Tuft - DEA Agent

The elite Colombian police unit, the Bloque de Busqueda – or ‘Search Bloc’ – were in hot pursuit of Pablo Escobar, backed up by their American allies in the DEA.

The commander of Search Bloc – Colonel Hugo Martinez – had given the job of tracing Escobar’s calls to the one man he knew he could trust absolutely: his own son.

Finally, the younger Martinez was able to track the drug baron’s calls to a quiet residential street in the suburban neighbourhood of Los Olivos. Posted outside, suddenly Martinez saw a figure at a second storey window. Every officer in Colombian law enforcement and every DEA agent knew that face…
